He was also convicted of assault for the injuries of his stepdaughter, Nicole Sheffield.

The prosecutor, Butch Binford, argued that McDaniel was under the influence of alcohol during the crash, and that his judgement was impaired when he pulled the family SUV out in front of a tractor trailer. Testimony during the trial showed that McDaniel had a blood alcohol content of .055 an hour after the crash.

Testimony during the trial showed that Miss Nicole Sheffield suffered a concussion that bruised her brain stem, and left her unconscious for two weeks after the crash. McDaniel was convicted of assault for the injuries Sheffield suffered in the accident.

The jury convicted Kenneth Lamar McDaniel on three felony counts of manslaughter for his involvement in a two-vehicle crash that killed his wife, son and his son’s friend. After deliberating for two hours, the jury also found him guilty of felony second-degree assault.

According to the police report, the crash happened on U.S. 231 South near Madrid as McDaniel drove his family to their Cottonwood home around 8 p.m. on June 7, 2006. The only other survivor in the crash was McDaniel’s stepdaughter, Nicole Sheffield, who was 14 at the time of the wreck.

Circuit Court Judge Ed Jackson will sentence McDaniel on March 4.

Binford said McDaniel would likely face 20 to 99 years in prison or a life sentence for each manslaughter conviction, and 15 to 99 years or a life sentence for the assault conviction because of his previous criminal history.

McDaniel was convicted in 1993 of four felony counts of unlawful breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, Binford said.
